Carpet Installation Guide
While do-it-yourself carpet installations are becoming more popular, installing carpeting is a technical skill that requires a delicate touch. Installing carpet by an experienced crew is now inexpensive, and carpeting is often sold with installation costs included. A professional installation team can provide you with the detail you need to have your carpet installed correctly. When you locate a professional carpet installation company, make sure to follow this guide for the best results.
Carpet Installation Tips At the Store
When you buy your brand new carpeting, ask your local carpet or flooring store if they have specialized carpet installers on staff. An excellent carpet installation company will manage every detail of the carpet installation, from the material to the day of the installation itself. Make sure to ask about extra fees or carpeting installation prices for old floor removal and removal and transfer larger furniture pieces.
Choosing the Right Carpet Style
With the many carpet styles out there, it can be difficult to choose the right one. Here are some of the main carpet styles and their use:
- Level Loop Pile: made from an uncut surface that will not crush or become matted. This design is best used in a room where there is plenty of activity and walking.
- Cut Pile: made by several twists in the yarn, which allows it to hold its shape longer. This design is also best used in rooms with high traffic and activity.
- Saxony: known to be a soft texture that is made by twisting fibers and using heat to straighten the yarn. Saxony is best used for a room that does not see much traffic or activity, simply because it will show vacuum marks, as well as footprints.
- Friezé: made by tightly twisting yarns together. It is considered to have a more contemporary look but will still show vacuum marks and footprints, just not as noticeable as saxony.
- Cut Loop: combines cut and uncut loops which are used in many solid and colorful print carpets. The numerous designs featured by cut loop textures make it perfect for formal and contemporary looks in any room.
- Berber: made in a loop construction from thick, bulky yarns. They are a popular pattern that are used in all different types of carpet from shag to friezes. They are best suited for any room and any look.
- Shag: offers a stylish, hip look as well as a contemporary, elegant look, depending on the room it is placed in.
Day-Of Carpet Installation Tips
When it’s the day of your carpet installation, keep in mind these tips:
- Eliminate all of the items in the area where you’re getting your carpet installed—things such as vases, lamps, TVs, stereos, and other electronics.
- Keep the ground as clean and straightforward as possible before the carpet installers come.
- Vacuum the older carpeting thoroughly to minimize the airborne dust and allergens
- Detach everything connected to an outlet, such as lights and lamps
